Timber constructions are multiplying very fast these days. CLT, LVL, Glulam are a tiny revolution in timber construction. They are stable, strong and some products can span for tens of meters without support. Yet, when it comes to material efficiency in beams or columns, cross laminating at +/- 40° isn't ideal as the fibres aren't always in line with forces.
Inspired by composite technologies, such as filament winding and fibre placement, SCALE invented veneer winding where the positioning of a veneer tape is applied layer after layer around a matrix in such a way that the timber fibres is always oriented most efficiently.
SCALE is currently looking for technology partners to develop this technology further.
